ABSTRACT
Psidium guajava, or guava, is a popular fruit grown in tropical areas that has been known for its medicinal uses for a long time. The leaves contain various bioactive compounds, including phenols, flavonoids, terpenoids like gallic acid, and water-soluble tannins. This complex chemical makeup, especially the presence of gallic acid, gives the leaves strong effects against different pathogens, such as bacteria and fungi. In addition to their health benefits, guava leaves can also absorb heavy metals like zinc, cadmium, arsenic, lead, iron, and chromium, along with dyes such as methylene blue, congo red, brilliant green, amaranth, auramine, nile blue, and photocatalytic dyes from polluted water due to their porous structure and functional groups. The leaves contain substances that act as natural coagulants and adsorbents, assisting in flocculation, sedimentation, and the removal of impurities. It reduces the need for synthetic adsorbents and encourages sustainability. The combination of traditional medicinal uses with new environmental applications highlights the potential of guava leaves as a sustainable and versatile resource. Additionally, the ongoing studies and various properties of guava mentioned here may guide researchers in discovering new pharmaceuticals Guava leaf has anti-wrinkle and whitening effects. It also has antioxidant properties that can help prevent premature aging.[5] Guava leaves (Psidium guajava) contain bioactive compounds like flavonoids, tannins, and polyphenols. These compounds show antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing effects.
