Parvesh Kumar*, Ashish B. Goswami and Ram Sahu

ABSTRACT

Background: Dashanga Agada is a compound of Herbo-mineral formulation explained in Astangahridaya for the treatment of all type of Keeta Visha (Insect poisoning). Many of symptoms of Keeta Visha in general such as Daha, Shopha, and Kandu can be linked with anaphylactic reactions caused due to insect poisoning. Current study aimed to determine antihistaminic activity of Dashanga Agada during acute inflammation induced in rats. Methods: Acute inflammation was produced by subplantar injection of 0.1 ml. of 0.1% histamine into the right hind paw of each rat in the control and treatment groups. The degree of oedema was measured using a Plethysmometer at the time points of 60, 120, 180, 240 and 300 min. after injection. Results: The volume of Paw edema increased in control group for 4 hrs and decrease in paw oedema was observed after 5 hrs administration of histamine. The Dashanga Agada and Loratadine exhibited significant (P < 0.05) activity by reducing the inflammation. Conclusion: The results of the present study showed that the extract effectively suppressed the edema produced by histamine, so it may be suggested that the Dashanga Agada exhibits its anti-inflammatory activity is possibly backed by its antihistamine activity.
