Abstract
DIELECTRIC STUDIES OF ANISOLE CONTAINING ALCOHOLS AND CARBON TETRACHLORIDE AT 301K

ABSTRACT

The molecular interactions have been explained from the formation of hydrogen bonded complex of alcohols such as methanol, ethanol, propanol and butanol with anisole. The dipole moment of the hydrogen bonded complexes of the above said alcohols with anisole in carbon tetrachloride are obtained from the experimentally measured values of dielectric constant at the frequency of 300MHz, using the Huyskens method based on onsager theory. The dipolar increment obtained for all the systems from the bond angle data available from the literature also predict the enthalpy changes from the dipolar increment. The result shows that the entire systems complex formed due to the polarization effect only. The value of enthalpy and dipolar increment indicate the order of the complex methanol > ethanol > propanol > butanol, anisole as one of the component.
