EFFECT OF ULTRASONIC WAVES ON THE GROWTH OF ALGINASE PRODUCING Bacillus cereus

ABSTRACT

This experiment has been undertaken to investigate the effect of ultrasonic waves 33 kHz and 40 kHz on the growth of alginase producing Bacillus cereus. The overnight grown bacterial culture was then transfer to an ultrasonic cleaner, with a given ultrasonic treatment 33 kHz and 40 kHz at controlled temperature 35±2ºC for 60 min. The growth of Bacillus cereus was assessed through indirect viable cell count, after 24h incubation on alginate agar media. As the frequency (33 kHz and 40 kHz) and treatment time (10, 30, 40, 50 and 60 min) increase the bacterial colony number was significantly decreased. It was also noticed that 40 kHz frequency was more effective than 33 kHz in reducing the colony number.
