ANALYTICAL STUDY ON GRAPES AND ITS THERAPEUTIC USES

ABSTRACT

Draksha is the best among all fruits as per Ayurveda. It is also indicated in different diseases as a medication and used in diet in fresh and dry forms. Draksha is a seasonal fruit and not available throughout the year. Hence, Draksha is used in dry form i.e. Munakka (Raisins). Commonly Munakka, Kismis and Currants are three varieties, which show slight difference in nutritional values as well as their qualities. They have Vatahara, Pittahara, Brimhana, Vrishya, Rasayana and Mridu rechana property. The researches show the decrease in Cholesterol level, enhancement of antioxidants and the seed extract of raisins inhibit IL-8 and NF-κB pathway. Hence, Draksha should be incorporated in diet on regular basis in the dry or fresh form for health promotion, disease prevention and wide variety of Vata, Pitta and Raktaja Vyadhis and Apatarpana Vyadhis.
