DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF SUNOON ZARD (TOOTH POWDER) IN TO TOOTHPASTE ALONG WITH ITS SOPS AND PHYSICO-CHEMICAL STUDY

ABSTRACT
The prevalence of orodental diseases are steepingly rising due to drastic change in life style and dietary habit. Oral cancer, dental caries, and periodontal diseases are among the most important global oral health problems. Although conventional dosage forms are available to prevent and manage such type of disorders but may have consist of ingredients which have been proven harmful. Many statutory warnings related with cautious use of it are being floated in social media while time tested herbal formulations indicated in Unani System of Medicine for various orodental disorders have been proven effective and safe. All these facts drag our attention to develop Sunoon Zard a Unani tooth powder in to toothpaste which is commonly being prescribed by Unani Physician to cure orodental diseases. In view of above the present study was undertaken to “Redesigning the Sunoon Zard,a Unani toothpowder into the toothpaste form” along with development of its Standard Operating Procedure (SOP’s) and Physicochemical study. Different formulations were prepared using varying concentration of natural ingredients along with excipients. All formulations were evaluated for various parameters like dryness, colour, appearance, consistency, pH, spreadability and foaming capacity. The most suitable formulation was optimized based on these evaluation studies.
