DOSHAVAHA SROTAS AS ETIOLOGICAL FACTORS OF DISEASES: AN AYURVEDA REVIEW

ABSTRACT
The ancient Ayurveda texts defined concept of Srotas as vital entity of body which governs many important functioning of body. Srotas are transporting passages and mainly associated with functioning of transformation. They are considered as micro and macro channels on the basis of their morphology. The term Srotas itself resembles “Su Sravano” that means to ooze and filter. The Srotas helps to transport waste products and nutrients from one place to another. The respiratory tract, genito-urinary tract, gastro-intestinal tract, vessels, lymphatic and capillaries system, etc., all together forms Srotas. It is believed that normal state of Srotas contributed towards the healthy physiology while improper functioning of Srotas leads pathological manifestations. The improper functioning of Srotas can leads Dosha vitiation which may result diseases pathogenesis. Therefore it is stated that specific Srotas responsible for particular physiology and abnormalities in Srotas causes specific pathological consequences. Considering this aspect present article dealt with physiological and pathological consideration of Srotas.
