Dr. Sudheer Sharma* and Dr. Rishu Sharma

ABSTRACT

Grahanidosha is disease of bowel mainly occurs due to the impairment of Agni Dosha. Grahani is seat of Agni, retains food and passes it to Pakwashya. The Agni Vaishamya in Grahani Pradesha triggers pathogenesis of disease. Ajeerna, dysphagia, constipation, abdominal pain, disturbed bowel movement, irregular motion and anorexia, etc. are general consequences of disease. Ayurveda described Grahani dosha is Ashtomahagada and prevalence of disease is more in children due to low level of digestive strength and weak immunity. As per modern science on the basis of signs and symptoms it can be correlated to the irritable bowel syndrome. This condition affects children during their age of growth and affects their physical and mental development. Improper dietary habits, poor hygiene and disturbed life style, etc. are mainly considered responsible factors of bowel disease in children. The vitiation of Doshas and weakened strength of Agni causes release of undigested food from Grahani Pradesha. The restoration of Agni using Deepana and Pachana drugs, avoidance of causative factors, maintenance of hygienic condition and Shodhana therapy, etc. are prime approaches to combat against Grahani Dosha.
