AYURVEDA CONSIDERATIONS OF PURVA KARMA, PRADHAN KARMA AND PASHCHAT KARMA IN SHALYA CHIKITSA

ABSTRACT
Shalya Chikitsa is one of the important therapeutic modality of Ayurveda which works around surgical and para-surgical measures for treating different types of pathological conditions and injury, etc. The Shalya Chikitsa helps to treat various diseases including Arsha, pilonidal sinus, abscesses, Charmakeela, cysts and Kadar, etc. The Shalya Chikitsa is performed as per the specified protocol described by Acharya Sushruta and Trividha karma is one such protocol of Shalya Chikitsa. As per the concept of Trividha karma the Shalya Chikitsa should be performed in three stages including Purva Karma, Pradhan Karma and Pashchat Karma. Purva karma means preoperative measure which involves collection of surgical materials, patient’s preparation and preparation for main procedure. Pradhan karma defines main operative procedures which involve different type of surgical procedures and Paschat karma involves post-operative care to avoid complications and attainment of therapeutic completion. Considering importance of these all aspect of Shalya Chikitsa present article deals with Ayurveda perspectives of Purva Karma, Pradhan Karma and Pashchat Karma in Shalya Chikitsa.
