AYURVEDA REVIEW ON BAL-SAMSKARA PERFORMED IN CHILDHOOD AND THEIR DEVELOPMENTAL SIGNIFICANCE

ABSTRACT
Samskaras encompass religious rites, ceremonial practices and sacrificial rituals aimed at cultivating spiritual
awareness. Samskara helps in the transformative enhancement of qualities. Any process fostering continual
positive changes in body, intellectual capacity and personality can be described as Samskara. These practices hold
profound significance in child health, facilitating routine examinations of growth and developmental milestones.
Childhood Samskaras are designed to prepare infants for adequate nutrition, prevent diseases, establish individual
identity and acclimate them to their environment, etc. Ayurveda outlines various Samskaras corresponding to
different life stages, announcing the attainment of distinct milestones and ensuring proper growth. The major
Samskaras are 16 in number spanning from Garbhadan to Anteysthi Samskara. Some of them are performed in
early childhood age to impart essential qualities. Present article summarizes some Bal-Samskara performed in
childhood age along with their significance in growth and development of child.
