AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF STHANA GRANTHI W.S.R FIBROCYSTIC BREAST DISEASE- CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT
Fibrocystic breast disease is the most common benign lesion. It is generally observed between 20-50years of age. Incidence rate of Fibrocystic disease in India is 4.3%. The exact etiology is unknown. It may be due to altered estrogen progesterone ratio or relative decrease in progesterone or else the breast tissues are more sensitive to prolactin. Stress factor may at times be related. In Ayurvedic classics there is no direct reference of Sthana Granthi, Acharya Charaka’s explanation of Granthi (Mamsaja granthi of Sthana) can be corelated to Sthana Granthi. All Granthis (nodular or glandular swellings) of all parts of the body due to vitiation of the Dosha and Dhatu’s. So, in the present study, a patient with fibroadenoma was successfully treated by Ayurvedic management. Case Study: A female patient aged 33 years diagnosed as Sthana Granthi, treated with Virechana followed by shaman chikitsa, after the treatment her Pain and Granthi size reduced markedly.
