ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF HERBAL SOAP FORMULATIONS EXTRACT GAHARU LEAVES (GYRINOPS VERSTEEGII)

ABSTRACT
Antioxidant soap can protect the skin from free radicals, one of the plants that has benefits as a natural antioxidant is agarwood leaves (Gyrinops versteegii). This research aims to find the best formulation that has the strongest antioxidant activity but still meets the requirements of SNI quality standards with four variations of concentration. Solid and liquid soaps ware made through saponification reaction between oil and alkali using semi-boiled process method. The activity phase includes the preparation of extracts, solid soap and liquid soap formulations, antioxidant tests of extracts, solid soap and liquid soap, then continued with soap quality tests including pH test, specific gravity test, water content test, total fat test, ethanol insoluble material test, alkali/free fatty acid test, unsaponified fat test, and chloride content test. The results of soap quality testing show that all formulas have met the quality standard requirements set by SNI 3532-2016 for solid soap and SNI 4085-2017 for liquid soap which has the best antioxidant activity, namely formula IV of 476.1456 ppm for solid soap and 414.5924 ppm for liquid soap.
