ABSTRACT
Antimicrobial resistance is a growing global health concern, particularly concerning food production and animal agriculture. This review examines the current state of knowledge regarding AMR in Escherichia coli derived from poultry sources, focussing on the prevalence, mechanisms, and implications of resistance. The poultry industry's reliance on antimicrobial agents for growth promotion and disease prevention has contributed to the emergence and spread of MDR E. coli populations in poultry environments. Factors like overcrowding, poor sanitation, and indiscriminate antimicrobial usage exacerbate this issue. Additionally, because poultry farms are often close to human populations, this makes it easier for resistant strains to spread, which is a big concern for public health. It's important to have surveillance programs in place to keep an eye on trends in antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in poultry farms. These programs help us understand how to use antibiotics more responsibly and protect our health. This review highlights the vital importance of taking comprehensive actions to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in E. coli found in poultry faeces. It emphasizes the significance of using antibiotics wisely and implementing surveillance programs that cover a wide range of areas. These steps are crucial for maintaining the effectiveness of antibiotics and safeguarding public health.
