ABSTRACT

Solid Lipid Nanoparticles (SLNs) represent a versatile and promising platform in the field of nanotechnologyenabled
drug delivery systems. Their unique characteristics, including biocompatibility, controlled release
properties, and ease of surface modification, have garnered significant interest in pharmaceutical and biomedical
research. This comprehensive review aims to provide a detailed overview of the current state-of-the-art in SLN
technology, focusing on their formulation strategies, physicochemical properties, drug loading capacities, and
applications in various therapeutic areas. Emphasis is placed on elucidating the underlying mechanisms governing
SLN synthesis and optimization, along with highlighting recent advances and future prospects in this rapidly
evolving field. Additionally, challenges such as stability issues, scale-up considerations, and regulatory hurdles are
addressed, offering insights into overcoming barriers to the widespread adoption of SLNs in clinical practice.
Overall, this review endeavours to consolidate existing knowledge and stimulate further research efforts toward
harnessing the full potential of SLNs as innovative carriers for enhanced drug delivery and therapeutic efficacy.

Keywords: Solid lipid nanoparticles; Methods of preparation; Nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs).
