HORMONAL CHANGES IN MALE WISTAR RAT FOLLOWING SUB -ACUTE EXPOSURE TO PESTICIDES (ORGANOPHOSPHATES)

ABSTRACT
Organophosphates have been significantly applied for various forms of environment and household pest control, to which it has shown great efficacies. Despite this significant role, a lot of health challenges have been reported lately owing to organophosphate usage and its application; thereby, affecting major organs and tissue in the body; therefore, in order to further evaluate the effects of organophosphate on human system this current study aims at evaluating the effect of hormonal changes in male Wister rat following sub-acute exposure to Pesticides (Organophosphates). In carrying out this study, 25 Male Wister rats were divided into five different groups to check for the hormonal changes on male Wister rats following sub-acute pesticide exposure. Group A was used as the control group (pesticide was not applied to this group). Group B was exposed for a period of one hour (Low exposure). Group C was exposed for a period of two hours (Medium exposure). Group D was exposed through skin contact (applying pesticide directly to the skin). Group E was exposed to pesticide for a period of four hours (High exposure). The result obtained revealed that; there was a significant decrease in mean testosterone level group B, C, D and E when compared to group A. The mean luteinizing hormone level showed an increase with significance in groups B, C and D while group E showed not much increase when compared to group A.
