EFFECT OF STRUCTURED TEACHING MODULE (STM) ON PULMONARY REHABILITATION AMONG PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE AT SELECTED HOSPITAL OF VIDARBHA REGION, MAHARASHTRA

ABSTRACT
A pre-experiment with one group pre-test and post-test design was used to find out the effect of structured teaching module on pulmonary rehabilitation among purposively selected patients with COPD admitted in selected hospital of Vidarbha region, Maharashtra. To collect data on demographic variables & pulmonary rehabilitation, a structured interview schedule was used among patients with COPD before and after an intervention. After a pre-test, the structured teaching module was used to teach on pulmonary rehabilitation among 110 patients with COPD. However, after one week, the post test was conducted among patients with COPD to assess the effect of structured teaching module on pulmonary rehabilitation. From the findings, it was observed that the pre-intervention demographic variables of patients with COPD were more or less similar revealing common characteristics. Further, it was observed that the percentages of knowledge (36.6%) on pulmonary rehabilitation among COPD patients were more or less similar before intervention. However, after an intervention, the percentage of knowledge on pulmonary rehabilitation was significantly increased from 36.6% to 60.6%. There was a significant difference (p<0.0001) between pretest and posttest knowledge scores on pulmonary rehabilitation. However, no significant association (p>0.05) was found between knowledge on pulmonary rehabilitation and age, gender, religion, qualification, occupation, monthly income and place of residence of patients with COPD. Findings of study revealed that the structured teaching module on pulmonary rehabilitation as a method of teaching was effective among patients with COPD admitted in selected hospital of Vidarbha region, Maharashtra.
