SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION AND STUDIES ON THE ANTIFUNGAL ACTIVITY OF CARBON NANOPARTICLES FROM NATURAL SOURCES

ABSTRACT

This paper describes the synthesis of carbon nanoparticle (CNPs) from kitchen soot, characterization of the CNPs by UV/visible spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA-DSC) and their antifungal action. The antifungal activity of the carbon nanoparticles was tested against various pathogenic fungal strains such as Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus fumigates, Aspergillus flavus, Penicillium janthinellum, and Mucor ramosissimus by well method. The inhibition zones were measured and it was found that the carbon nanoparticles isolated from natural sources are active against these fungal strains.
