ABSTRACT

Siddha medical system is a unique tradition practiced among the Tamil people of South India to combat diseases
and maintain physical, mental, social, and spiritual health. The Siddhars, the greatest scientists of ancient times,
were well-versed in nearly every branch of science. They laid the foundation for this medical system. Siddhars
were spiritual masters who possessed the Ashta Siddhis, or eight supernatural powers, and held tremendous
strength through yoga practice and rejuvenation. They believed that by strengthening and perfecting the body, they
could transcend the cycle of birth and death and achieve long-lasting life. Herbal remedies are rapidly emerging in
recent years in the management of numerous diseases. Diabetes mellitus is a continual metabolic disorder which
leads to the deficiency of insulin by pancreas and has resulted significant morbidity and mortality. Amidst many
treatment modalities, management of the disease still remain challenging. An insight into single herb remedies
could be a lead in approaching Diabetes Mellitus. According to Siddha literature, diabetes is referred to as Innippu
Neer, Madhumegam, and Neerizhivu. The causes of this disease are linked to dietary habits, lifestyle changes, and
hereditary factors. This article deals with siddha intervention of management of Diabetes with reference to
