Abstract
EFFECT OF VICIA SATIVA L. ALLELOCHEMICALS ON THE GROWTH OF LENTIL (LENS CULINARIS L.)

ABSTRACT

Vicia sativa is a common weed that grows luxuriantly with the lentil (Lens culinaris L.) crop showed negative allelopathic interaction. Removal through manual picking sometimes not possible because of the similar morphology. The negative allelopathic interaction was studied by growing lentil plants under the different dilutions of whole plant extract of V. sativa. Growth was analyzed on 5th and 20 days after seed germination. Total carbohydrate, nitrogen and proline contents was estimated to ensure the possible impact of weed on photosynthesis and respiration. The growth was severely inhibited at all concentration of the extract and the test plant accumulate less biomass as compared to the distilled water grown control plants. the carbohydrate, nitrogen accumulation was decreases in a similar way. The free proline contents were increase from 5th to 20 days indicating the level of stress. LC/MS analysis of the extract showed the presence of various allelochemicals like nocodazole, 4-nitrobenzoic acid, benzoic acid, glutaric acid, 5-chllorovalaric acid, and 1-amino-cyclopentane-carboxylic acid etc. These allelochemicals were docked by the tryptophan synthase beta-subunit from Pyrococcus furiosus that stimulate tryptophane biosynthesis and auxin production and disturb the phytohormone balance in test plants. some allelochemicals shows prefect binding with the target molecule as compared to their natural ligand.
