ABSTRACT
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death worldwide in men, and, after breast cancer, for women. The two categories of lung cancer are small cell carcinoma and non-small cell carcinoma. SCLC are strongly linked to tobacco consumption and their diagnosis on histological evidence. With a non-specific clinic. But in the majority of cases the patients present themselves under a noisy picture. Small cell lung cancer accounts for 10-15% of all lung cancers. Its incidence has decreased to 13% of all lung cancers. The objective of our study is to study the clinical, para-clinical, therapeutic, progressive and prognostic epidemiological profile of metastatic small cell lung cancer in the medical oncology department of the Moulay Ismail military hospital in Meknes. This is a retrospective descriptive analytical study spread over a period of six years (from January 2004 to December 2019) concerning 20 cases in the medical oncology department of the Moulay Ismail military hospital in Meknes. Despite the proven chemosensitivity of SCLC, their poor prognosis is due to the precocity of local and distant relapses. Metastatic locations are frequent at the time of diagnosis. Systemic chemotherapy represents the main therapeutic weapon for disseminated forms; the combination of a platinum salt and Etoposide is a first- line therapeutic standard in metastatic forms, the complete response rate reached 25% in our series. The median overall survival was 7.22 months with a One year survival of 10%. Palliative care is systematically integrated into the therapeutic plan of each patient with bronchial carcinoma and all of our patients have benefited from supportive palliative care during their care as well as adequate psychological support.
