ABSTRACT
The aim of the present study is to investigate the effects of dry ginger rhizome powder suspension treatment on serum glucose, cholesterol, urea, creatinine, ALP, and ALT levels in rabbits were allocated into three groups (5.0 rabbits in each); control, ginger suspension 100mg/kg body weight and ginger suspension 200mg/kg body weight. The results revealed that administration of ginger suspension 100mg/kg body weight or ginger suspension 200mg/kg body weight significantly reduced glucose level, cholesterol level and ALP activities compared with control group, and an insignificant change in urea level, creatinine level and ALT observed in ginger suspension 100mg/kg body weight or ginger suspension 200mg/kg body weight treated animals compared with control group. We concluded that ginger suspension at dose 100 or 200 mg/kg body weight was beneficial in decreasing serum total cholesterol, serum glucose, and serum ALP activity but it has no effect on serum urea, creatinine levels and ALT activity in normal rabbits.
Keywords: Ginger, Zingiber officinale suspension, rabbits.
