A SURVEY OF IMPORTED MALARIA FROM AFGHANISTAN IN SAVODJBOLAGH COUNTY, ALBORZ PROVINCE, IRAN

ABSTRACT
Malaria is an importance disease in tropical and subtropical areas. The present study aimed to survey of imported
Malaria from Afghanistan in Savodjbolagh county, Alborz Province, Iran. This research is a descriptive,
malariometric survey using all malaria suspicious patients’ data from the whole county. Giemsa staining was used
for diagnosis of malaria. Out of 91 proved cases, 6 cases were Plasmodium falciparum (%6.6) and P. vivax species
were identified in 85 cases (%93.4). Individuals aging 20-29 and 10-19 years had the highest infection prevalence
and all proved cases were male and non-Iranian cases. The highest rate of sampling (%42) was in summer and the
lowest in winter (). %54 of positive samples was in rural area and %46 was in urban area. The ABER was
0.45, API was 0.42 and SPR was 1.89. All cases were imported ones so general policies especially continuous
control of migration from neighbouring countries, leads to limitation of disease.
