FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF FAST DISSOLVING ORAL FILMS OF LACOSAMIDE

ABSTRACT
This research paper focuses on the development and evaluation of fast-dissolving oral films (FDOFs) of Lacosamide, an antiepileptic drug used to treat partial onset seizures. The oral route of administration is preferred due to its convenience, non-invasiveness, and patient compliance, especially for pediatric and geriatric patients who have difficulty swallowing conventional tablets and capsules. FDOFs offer several advantages, including rapid onset of action, increased bioavailability by bypassing hepatic first-pass metabolism, and ease of use without water. The solvent casting technique was used to prepare the films, incorporating natural polymers such as HPMC, sodium alginate, guar gum, and xanthan gum. The prepared films were then evaluated for various parameters, including thickness, weight uniformity, folding endurance, and in vitro dissolution. The results demonstrate that the formulation successfully creates a fast-dissolving oral film that is a promising alternative for drug delivery.
