This study focuses on the structural characterization of tertiary butyl iodide using ¹H Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The ¹H NMR spectrum of tertiary butyl iodide reveals key features that provide insights into its molecular structure, including a characteristic singlet corresponding to the nine equivalent methyl protons (–CH) of the tert-butyl group. The symmetry of the molecule results in a single peak for the methyl protons, confirming the identity of the compound. The analysis also confirms the absence of any other proton signals, further validating the purity and structure of the compound. Through this study, we demonstrate how ¹H NMR spectroscopy serves as a reliable technique for the structural elucidation and purity assessment of organic compounds, particularly alkyl halides like tertiary butyl iodide.
