CONTROL AND MANAGEMENT OF SEBORRHEIC DERMATITIS USING NOVEL HERBAL BASED FORMULATION

ABSTRACT

Seborrheic dermatitis is a relatively common, chronic inflammatory skin disease that is related to dandruff and scalp scaling. In this present study, a formulation of polyherbal shampoo with ingredients of Glycyrrhiza glabra (Liquorice), Asparagus racemosus (Shatavari) and Thymus vulgaris (Thyme oil) were prepared and evaluated. Extracts obtained with the aid of maceration and added to shampoo formulations (F1, F2 and F3). All the formulations were tested for the following physical, chemical and microbiological characteristics such as pH, viscosity, foam stability, surface tension and antimicrobial activity. The data revealed that F2 had maximum performances as formulation with pH 7.4, good foaming and stability and good antimicrobial property. In conclusion, the herbal shampoo developed in the study is effective, safe, goodoy and can be used for treating dermopathy like dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis.
