ABSTRACT
Fingertip amputations with nail-bed loss and bone exposure present major reconstructive challenges and often require surgical intervention. Evidence for non-surgical regeneration of deep tissue and nail-bed structures remains limited. This study reports a scientifically evaluated case involving a 43-year-old female from Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, India, sustained a severe distal fingertip amputation. A descriptive single-case observational framework was used to assess an integrative herbal protocol comprising tinctures of Calendula officinalis, Utricularia vulgaris, and Datura stramonium leaf-mustard oil poultice administered under licensed medical supervision. Healing progression was monitored for nine months using clinical examination, photographic documentation, and statistical tools including ANOVA, linear regression, and first-order healing-rate constants. Quantitative phytochemical dosage estimations were derived from literature and correlated with wound-area reduction, pain-score trends, granulation, epithelialization, and nail-plate regeneration. Significant improvement in wound-area reduction (p < 0.01), pain-score decline (p < 0.01), and nail-plate regeneration rate were observed. Progressive granulation, angiogenesis, and complete nail-bed restoration occurred without secondary infection or grafting. Approximately 92% wound-area reduction was achieved by six months, with full nail-plate maturation by nine months. Regression modeling demonstrated consistent healing trends across inflammatory, proliferative, epithelialization, and remodeling phases. Calendula contributed anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and angiogenic effects; Utricularia provided astringent and antioxidant support; and Datura offered analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and circulatory enhancement despite its toxic profile requiring strict supervision. Inclusion of Utricularia represents a novel aspect due to limited clinical documentation. This case provides rare scientific evidence supporting Phyto-therapeutic adjuncts in complex fingertip injuries by deep-tissue fingertip regeneration particularly where surgical options are limited.
