HISTOPATHOLOGY CHANGES IN THE INTEGUMENT OF 5TH INSTAR SILKWORM BOMBYX MORI L INFECTED WITH BEAUVERIA BASSIANA (BALS) VUILL.

ABSTRACT

Marked histopathological variations were noticed in the integument of Bombyx mori infected with Beauveria bassiana from the day of inoculation to the end of the 5th instar compared to control. Germination tube was observed at 10 hours of post-inoculation of the fungal pathogen in the epicuticle layer . By the end of the instrar i.e. 7th day of fungal inoculation the epidermal cells of integument were extensively invaded by the fungus and drastic cytopathological changes were visible in all layers of the integument. Complete disruption of the epidermal layer and the burst of the epidermal cells was very clearly evident.
