MEDICINAL PLANTS FOR COLORECTAL CANCER

ABSTRACT
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common, best-understood neoplasms from a genetic point of view. Each Year more than 1 million new cases of colorectal cancer are diagnosed worldwide. CRC is the 3rd most common malignancy and 4th most common cause of cancer mortality worldwide. CRC is also the 2nd most common cause of cancer deaths in the United States and other developed countries. Plants have been used for therapeutic purposes for centuries. Herbal plants and medicine is based on the fact that plants contain natural substances that can promote health and alleviate illness. Human beings rely on traditional medicine for their primary health care needs and most of this therapy involves the use of plant extracts or their active components. Various plants that have hypolipidemic, antiplatelet, antitumor or immune- stimulating properties that can be useful adjuncts in helping reduce the risk of cancer. Some wide variety of plants active phytoconstituents, including the flavonoids, terpenoids, lignans, sulfides, polyphenolics, carotenoids, coumarins, saponins, plant sterols, curcumins, and phthalides have been identified.
