EVALUATION OF SEASONAL AND ALTITUDINAL VARIATION IN ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF FICUS AURICULATA LEAVES FROM CHAMOLI GARHWAL, UTTARAKHAND

ABSTRACT
The antioxidant activity of leaves of Ficus auriculata collected in rainy, winter and summer seasons from different altitudes of Chamoli Garhwal was studied by DPPH method. The methanolic extract of Ficus auriculata of Adibadri and Kunjasu showed best antioxidant activity of 97.2% and 96.44% respectively in winter season at 1000μg/ml as compared to 92.4% and 89% activity respectively shown by the same concentration of extract in rainy season plant material. The summer season plant extract showed only 96.85% and 88.09% from Adibadri and Kunjasu regions respectively. Whereas the extract from Devsthan region possessed maximum antioxidant activity of 90.25% at concentration of 1000μg/ml in rainy season as compared to winter season activity of only 24.04% and summer season activity of 22.65% with the same concentration of extract. Although all the plant extracts were found to posses good antioxidant potential as compared to standard ascorbic acid with 99% activity at 1000μg/ml .
