ABSTRACT
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of hepcidin in anemic patients presenting with chronic myeioid leukemia (CML), admitted in Radiation and Isotopes Center, Khartoum, Sudan. To correlate hepcidin level with hemoglobin, PCV, MCH and MCHC. To correlate hepcidin levels with age and duration of disease Materials and methods: A total of 44 anemic patients (both sexes) diagnosed as chronic myeloid leukemia attending National cancer institute, Khartom, Sudan were enrolled in this study, 20 subjects were used as a control. serum was separated from patients and control groups, to estimate hepcidin level by ELISA method. Blood samples were collected in EDTA as an anticoagulant to measure hemoglobin, PCV, MCH, MCHC to be correlated with serum hepcidin levels. Results: A total of 44 patients diagnosed with anemia of chronic myeloid leukemia, their ages ranged between (13-75) years (the mean value of hepcidin level was found to be (10.9) both male 21 (10.9) and female 23(10.8)from different age groups, the hepcidin level showed no `1age. Conclusion: In summary we conclude that there was no significant association of serum hepcidin level and gender, duration, hemoglobin, RBcs parameters and age.
Keywords: The aim To correlate hepcidin level with hemoglobin, PCV, MCH and MCHC.
