ABSTRACT
Economics is concerned with efficiency but it is more than just efficiency. Efficiency is not the only objective in choosing how health care resources should be allocated. We also need to think about equity or the fair distribution of resources and benefits, which is also an objective in health care decision-making. Countries all over the world are facing increased burden of health care. Public fund available to the health sector are often short of what is required. This situation is a common feature in developing countries. Due to heavy disease burden and implementation of advanced technology, the cost of health care services has been increasing. In view of the problem of mismatch between demand and supply, health economics has become an important area of health care system. Economic evaluation is a process designed to produce an estimate rather than a decision. New treatment can be more costly and still be cost-effective. Controlling the growth of future health costs rests on the ability to prevent proactively, detect early, and manage well the diseases that drive health care costs.
