ABSTRACT

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) also called hyperandrogenic anovulation (HA) or Stein-Leventhal syndrome is one of the most common endocrine disorders among females. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine disorder affecting 5–10% of women of reproductive age. It is the major cause of ovulation-related infertilities, accounting for at least 75% of cases with anovulatory infertility. Traditionally serum Follicular stimulating hormone (FSH), Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and their ratio have been taken as important markers along with ultrasound study for PCOS diagnosis. Serum Antimullerian hormone (AMH) is a comparatively a new marker added in last few decades. The present study is done to compare the significance of serum FSH, LH, and serum AMH estimation to diagnose PCOS in female of reproductive age with complain of infertility. The aim of the study was to find out whether serum FSH and LH estimation can be replaced by serum AMH estimation which is more stable during the entire menstrual cycle and a good indicator of ovarian reserve which can also use for diagnosis of age related infertility and assisted reproductive techniques. Study of 129 cases was carried out to observe serum AMH, FSH and LH value in infertile females. Our results show that diagnosis of PCOS can be done more effectively with AMH than their classical markers FSH and LH.
