EVALUATION AND MANAGEMENT OF URETRIC COLIC

ABSTRACT

Evaluation and Management of Uretric Colic Renal stone disease is common, with a worldwide prevalence of between 2 and 20%.[233] Highest lifetime risk of stone formation has been reported in men in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia (KSA). Prevalence within Europe ranges more narrowly between 2 and 8%; however, a recent study in Greece found prevalence as high as 15% in a rural population in Thebes.[5] Countries in the Afro-Asian stone belt (stretching from Egypt and Sudan, through the Middle East, India, Pakistan, Burma, Thailand, Indonesia and Phillipines) falling within tropical and subtropical regions have consistently reported a high incidence of urolithiasis. Generally in this region the population density is high, the gross national product is low and 30-50% of the population live below the poverty line. Poor nutritional status and inadequate health facilities are common in the region. More than half the people live in rural areas and the climate is moderate to hot.[6]
