Abstract
UNUSUAL LOCALIZATION OF HYDATID CYST: A SERIES OF 3 CASES AND REVIEW OF LITERATURE.

ABSTRACT

Hydatid disease or Echinococcosis is caused by infection with larval stage of the cestode echinococcus. The most common sites involved in hydatid disease are the liver (50-75%) followed by the lungs (30%). Other sites such as the kidney, bone, brain, heart, spleen, pancreas, omentum, ovaries, parametrium, pelvis, thyroid, orbit or retroperitoneum and muscles are very rarely affected. Primary peritoneal echinococcosis accounts for 2% of all abdominal hydatidosis. Splenic hydatid being a rare entity, accounts for 2.5% only. Here we present a case series of mesenteric, omental, splenic hydatid cysts, one each.
