ABSTRACT
Background: Serum uric acid is commonly elevated in subjects with chronic kidney diseases. The present review is aimed on to study the effect of Losartan and Cilnidipine on uric acid levels in CKD patients with hypertension. Patients and methods: The prospective experimental study was designed as a 3 weeks follow up study in 72 patients based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. For the determination of uric acid level, residual blood samples were collected from laboratory and tests were carried out by using semi auto- analyzer. Medication adherence was evaluated by using MMAS-4 scale and Adverse drug reactions was done by Naronjo’s causality assessment scale. Results:. In male patients, on the first day of therapy uric acid values above 7 are found to be 36.17% (losartan) and 27.7% (cilnidipine), after 3rd weeek it is reduced to 21.27% (losartan) and 17.02% (cilnidipine). In female patients, on the first day of therapy uric acid values above 6 are found to be 28 % (losartan) and 40% (cilnidipine), after the 3rd weeek it is reduced to 16% (losartan) and 36% (cilnidipine).13.9% of patients with cilnidipine developed pedel oedema and 11.1% of patients with losartan developed dry cough during the course of therapy and high medication adherence. Conclusion: Losartan is more effective in reducing the serum uric acid level than that of cilnidipine. After using the both drug, scaling reveals that the both drug have a probable chance of adverse effect on the patients. Both the drugs having high medication adherence according to the MMAS 4 scale.
