Danish Javed*, Dhiraj Kumar Sharma and Pradeep Kumar

ABSTRACT

Marma are the most vital part of our body. They are highly vulnerable to injuries. These points are graded in terms of their prognostic importance after trauma into five distinguished classes. All this description was given by the eminent scholars of ayurveda, Sushruta and Vagbhatt. This article is devoted to this incredible classification of marma points. A detailed study and correlation was made on this classification pattern. The idea of this study is to enlighten the importance of trauma to human body. If the blueprint of injury to human body can be established through ayurveda, it will be highly helpful for the management of the situations in the current world, like war, road side accidents, natural disasters etc. However, in this article, the theoretical knowledge of Sushruta and Vagbhatt is further refined in terms of statistical presentation. Different body parts have different responses to trauma. Tissue type also shows a typical presentation to trauma. Total marma area (TMA) was calculated as per the angula pramaan mentioned in ayurveda texts. The per-cent area distributed to each particular type of marma is calculated. Results are recorded and further study on this setting and comparisons with real world situation is highly recommended.

Keywords: Marma, vital points, trauma, ayurveda sharir.
