IN VITRO MORPHOGENIC RESPONSE UNDER THE POTENTIAL INFLUENCE OF SILVER NITRATE IN MICROPROPAGATION OF SOLANUM VIARUM DUNAL-AN ANTICANCER PLANT

ABSTRACT
This investigation was carried out to suppress the action of in vitro produced ethylene on direct shoot organogenesis of an anticancer medicinal herb Solanum viarum. Murashige and skoog medium was supplemented with gradient concentrations of AgNO3 (0 -1.0mg/L) along with different concentrations of BAP, IAA & IBA. External administrations of 0.4mg/L AgNO3, 2mg/L BAP and 0.5mg/L IAA resulted in 95% regeneration with maximum number of shoots 37.3± 0.46 and 0.4mg/L AgNO3, 2mg/L BAP and 0.5mg/L NAA could result in maximum shoot length 10.78± 0.21cm. In vitro Rhizogenesis under the potential influence of AgNO3 (0.4 mg/L) was found to be maximum expressed in terms of number of roots (40.2 ± 0.13) in the media supplemented with 1mg/L IAA with 95% regeneration potency and the maximum root length was 11.28 ± 0.14cm at 2mg/L IAA. This study strategically improved protocols for micropropagation of Solanum viarum by supplementing with threshold level hormones and AgNO3 to enhance the regeneration frequency, shoot regeneration, rooting and longevity of cultures.
