Dr. Shashin Vyas, Dr. Pratik Shah* and Dr. Sharad Chandra Shah

ABSTRACT

Background: To evaluate the benefits and risks of different laparoscopic techniques To study the different methods of trocar entry in laparoscopic surgeries and comparison of the different rates of complications between them. Methods: A total of 102 patients were selected for the study. Informed consent was taken from the patients. Patients who underwent laparoscopic surgeries in a time frame of 1 year were selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: Duration of pneumoperitoneum creation as seen is significantly more in closed method than open (mean duration 10.70>>7.91). This duration is significant with Pr (|T| > |t|) = 0.0006 as suggested by the statistics. No major intra peritoneal or vascular injury was seen. Minor injuries like port site haematoma, gas leak and port site infection rates were more in open method whereas the time taken for port insertion was significantly more in closed method. Conclusion: Both the open and closed method for gaining access into peritoneal cavity are safe but the veress needle method has advantage of less time taken to enter Into the abdominal cavity as compared to open method

Keywords: laparoscopy, veress needle, safe, time.
