ABSTRACT
Acne vulgaris is a very common disease that affects everyone at least once in their lifetime, with women being inflicted with severe as opposed to men having mild acne. Antibiotics have been used since the beginning, providing immediate relief but accompanied with a lot of discomfort, shame and side-effects. Antibiotic resistance is another very important reason for shifting to herbal cure. Plant extracts have been widely used to check for the effective activity against bacteria. In this study the methanolic extracts of Callistemon lanceolatus and Calliandra haematocephala have been used against the main causative agent of acne: Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis. It was observed that both the plant extracts showed comparable results with antibiotics like Clindamycin and chemicals like Benzoyl Peroxide leading the way to become a potential treatment.
