FORMULATION DEVELOPMENT OF REPRESSED RELEASE ALGINATE MICROBEADS OF AMINO ACID

ABSTRACT
Aim of this research work was to develop repressed release dosage form of L-arginine with understanding of various process variables that may affect desired characteristics of an ideal dosage form. Controlled release formulation of L- Arginine was prepared by using ionotropic gelation. All possible formulations were prepared using different concentration of sodium alginate (4, 6 & 8%) as well as calcium chloride (4, 6 & 8%) containing chitosan. This formulated microbeads were evaluated by determining their size, swelling index, entrapment efficiency and drug release in 10 h. All batches of formulated repressed microbeads showed microbeads size, swelling index, entrapment efficiency and drug release in 10 h in range of 1.451-1.953mm, 296-318%, 75.0-98.1% and 81.99-97.45% respectively. Formulation F6 was the best fit developed formulation with microbeads size, swelling index, entrapment efficiency and drug release in 10 h in range of 1.761mm, 296%, 90.1% and 95.65% respectively. Hence repressed released microbeads of L- Arginine was developed and evaluated.
