AN ASSESSMENT OF KNOWLEDGE OF BIOLOGICAL EFFECT OF X-RADIATION AMONG THE RADIOGRAPHERS WORKING IN PRIVATE HOSPITALS IN PUDUCHERRY REGION

ABSTRACT
This study aimed to assess the knowledge of the biological effect of X-Radiation among the radiographers working in private hospitals in Puducherry region. A questionnaire is formulated to retrieve relevant demographic data and quantitative data about the knowledge regarding the biological effect of radiation. The questionnaire was derived from previous study. The questionnaire consists of both open ended and closed ended questions. Majority of the radiographers shows their interest in participation of ths study. About 226 radiographers from various private hospitals in puducherry region participated as respondent. The study shows that knowledge towards biological effect of X-Radiation among the radiographers working in private hospitals in puducherry region was adequate. Gender, age, qualification, experience were correlated with the knowledge towards the biological effect. Comparatively the young radiographers with less than 5 yrs experience were having more knowledge towards biological effect od X-Radiation. Compare with the qualification, the PG and UG qualified radiographers are much aware of the biological effect of radiation. The overall knowledge can be improved by continuous awareness programme and training.
