ABSTRACT

Raising health care expenditure becomes a global threat for the developing countries like India. People rely on modern medicines for their ailment to treat several dreadful diseases. But most of the allopathic medicines are known for its potential side effects. Hence health care providers are at constant need of alternate medicines which is devoid of adverse effects. One such noble system of Indian traditional medicine is called siddha. Siddha system of traditional medicine holds greater importance as they target the fundamental physiology of humans for the curative action. Being an ancient system siddha formulations are free from side effects and is in clinical use for various ailments since several centuries which is known for its rejuvenation potential. Systematic standardization of siddha formulation is highly essential as it clearly explore the nature of individual components. The main aim of the present investigation is to standardize the formulation Chitramutti Nei (CN) as per AYUSH guidelines. The results obtained from standardization and physiochemical analysis clearly reveals that total ash value of CN is about 2.11%, Specific Gravity 1.016, Viscosity 11.55 psa, Refractive index is 1.44, Iodine value 120.65. Saponification Value is 282.04 and LOD is about 8.66%. The result of the phytochemical analysis indicates that the formulation CN shows the presence of phenols, glycosides, coumarins and carbohydrates. Total iron content of the CN was found to be 0.512 mg/ml and also the formulation is devoid of heavy metal cadmium. Sterility profiling of CN reveals the absence of microbes such as E-coli, Salmonella, Staphylococcus Aureus and Pseudomonas Aeruginosa. TLC study reveals the presence of blue fluorescent emitting compound such as coumarins and HPTLC finger printing analysis of CN indicates the presence of 13 significant peaks with Rf value ranging from 0.06 to 0.75. From the results of the present investigation it was concluded that the formulation CN is highly sterile, safe and also possess biologically significant phytocomponents which is recommended for Iron deficiency anaemia.
