OVARIAN CYST: AN AYURVEDIC CONCEPT

ABSTRACT
Due to variation in our daily life style, 'cystic ovaries' is also a commonest gynecological problem nowadays. As the disease is related to the female reproductive system and hormonal axis, it can cause significant disturbance in the fertility status as well as hormonal condition of the female. Due to ovarian cysts, the fecundity and facundability become very poor. The age of first conception is increasing because of this disease in present era. Most of cases, Ovarian cysts can cause menstrual irregularities i.e. amenorrhea or oligomenorrhea which brings the patients to gynecological O.P.D. There are also some abnormalities related to cosmetic point of view e.g. Hirsutism, obesity, hoarseness of voice etc. Here the condition has been considered though Ayurvedic point of view as Kaphaja granthi of the ovary. The drugs having capacity of vata-kapha shamaka property, deepan, and Shothhar, are indicated in Ovarian cyst along with uterine tonics. Kanchnara has important role in treatment of any Granthi because it acts as a tridosha-shamak mainly kaphavatahara, deepana and sothahara action. That’s why It is commonly used in granthi. Many preparations of Guggulu are also effective because of its lekhan Karma.
