Abstract
STUDY OF GYNAECOLOGICAL PROBLEMS IN OBESE WOMEN

ABSTRACT

JV Obesity is increasing at an alarming rate throughout the world. Today there are more than 250 million estimated obese people worldwide, equivalent to seven percent of the adult population (WHO 1998)||Obesity has reached epidemic proportions in India in the 21st century, with morbid obesity affecting 5% of the country's population.[1] India is following a trend of other developing countries that are steadily becoming more obese. Unhealthy, processed food has become much more. accessible following India's continued integration in global food markets. Aims and Objectives 1. To highlight gynaecological problems associated with obese women attending Outpatient and Indoor Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Acharya Vinoba Bhave Rural Hospital, Wardha. 2. Evaluation of gynaecological problems in obese women based on clinicopathological study. Materials and Methods -The study was initiated only after obtaining permission from the institutional ethical committee, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC) and Acharya Vinoba Bhave Rural Hospital(AVBRH), Sawangi (Meghe), Wardha of the Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences (DMIMS) Deemed University. The study was carried out in100 female patients presenting in Obstetrics & Gynaecology OPD & IPD of AVBRH, Sawangi (Meghe), Wardha over the period of 2 years. Conclusion-To conclude, our study is the first study in central India to report the association between obesity and gynecological problems. Our study shows that menstrual pattern and menstrual cycle abnormality, infertility, PCOD, endometrial carcinoma and fibroid are associated with the obesity, therefore obese women should be screened for such gynaecological problems. The findings of our study are in the line with published literature.
