ABSTRACT
Child birth has always been the central event in the family of any culture, society or economic status. The advent of the child is often safeguarded by intense antenatal care accompanied by good obstetric care of the parturient women. Thus proper obstetric care provided to the mother would ensure the safety of both the mother and child. A total of 100 cases are studied for the induction of labour using oral primiprost and 100 cases using IV oxytocin. The cases in all the groups were matched with respect to age, parity, gestational age and Bishop score. Aim and Objectives: 1. To study duration of labour with oral PGE2 tablets and IV oxytocin in relation to pre-induction Bishop score. 2. To study the outcome of labour, intra-partum & post-partum complications in patients for induction of labour with oral PGE2 in comparison to IV oxytocin in primigravidae & multigravidae. 3. To study the neonatal outcome in patients undergoing induction of labour with oral PGE2 tablet in comparison to IV oxytocin. Methods and Methodology:- The present study was carried out in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Datta Meghe Institute of Medical sciences, Sawangi, Meghe Wardha. Type of study: Prosopective, Randomized Experimental Study A total of 200 cases who needed induction of labour were studied by using oral PGE2 (Primiprost 0.5mg) tablet in 100 cases and intravenous oxytocin infusion with 0.5 IU in 500 ml of 5% dextrose in 100 cases. Conclusions: a. Maximum number of patients(75% in group A and 71% in group B) were in the age group of twenty to twenty five years stressing the fact of high fertility in the above age group. b. There were more number of primis in the study(50.5%). This probably has a correlation with high incidence of PIH (34.1%) in the present study.
