MUTAGENIC EFFECT ON SOYBEAN (GLYCINE MAX) VAR.CO.1 FOLLOWING GAMMA IRRADIATION

ABSTRACT

Soybean variety, CO-1 has limited growth habit, medium maturity and high yield potential which is very well adapted to Agro-climatic conditions of Southern India. Seeds were treated with ethyl methane sulphonate and gamma rays followed by various doses. Observations on growth type, germination percentage, percentage survival, days to maturity, plant height, pods per plant, seed weight per plant, yield kg/ha, protein content and oil content were recorded on M1 generation. Study states that the effect of mutagen treated seeds 20 to30 Kr gamma rays dose and 0.10 to 0.15% EMS dose may be optimum to obtain maximum differences then the other generation.
