EPIDEMIOLOGICAL STUDY OF ACUTE LYMPHOBLASTIC LEUKEMIA IN YEMEN

ABSTRACT
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the epidemiology of acute lymphoblastic leukemia in Yemeni population during the years 2010-2014. Material and methods: This retrospective study included all diagnosed Yemeni patients with leukemia registered from June 2010 to December 2014 at oncology centers of Aden, Hadramoot and Taiz. Results: acute lymphoblastic leukemia constituted 33.6% (511/1522) of four leukemia types, The majority of patients are from Taiz center (56.9%), Aden center (23.6%) and Hadramoot center (19.5%). Patients referral increased over the years from 2010 -2014. Males had significantly more prevalence of ALL cases compared with female. ALL was most common at age 1-10years follow by 11-20 years. The years variation showed that higher number of ALL cases was seen in 2014 compared with other years of our study. Conclusions: Acute lymphoblastic leukemia was the most common type of total registered cases of leukemia. The most effected age group are 1-10years follow by 11-20 years.
