ROLE OF VIRECHANA KARMA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF VATARAKTA

ABSTRACT
In this modern era, the incidence of patients suffering from Vatarakta are increasing on a steady pace. In the past some decades, people have been found to be suffering from Vatarakta due to changes in their lifestyle and diet. Vatarakta is a metabolic disorder where in pain is predominant symptom, which disturbs day-today life of the patients. Vatarakta is a kind of vatavyadhi, caused due to Avarana pathology. Vatarakta shows the association of vata along with vitiated pitta and Rakta dhatu. In Ayurveda, Panchakarma is believed to be an effective cleansing treatment. Panchakarma consists of five major procedures which detoxifies the human body vigorously. These detoxification techniques are beneficial for the management of diseases that cannot be controlled only by Shamana chikitsa. Virechana is one of the most important chikitsa among Panchakarma, which gives justified results in various chronic diseases. In case of Vatarakta, to remove the accumulated excess doshas from the body, Virechana (one of the Samshodhana chikitsa) can be a fast acting and effective remedy.
