DRUG ADDICTION AMONG KASHMIR YOUTH CAUSES, CONSEQUENCE AND PREVENTIVE MEASURES.

ABSTRACT

Drug abuse has become a growing threat to humanity. The rising worldwide phenomenon of drug abuse in an epidemic form has been causing great public concern. It has engulfed the vulnerable sections of societies in different parts of the globe. No society or nation can any longer claim to be free from this problem as the culture of drug abuse and trafficking have assumed a transnational form and character Many drug free nations are now turning into drug addict countries as increasing number of young people from different socio-economic strata are falling prey to it. The situation created by the drugs in the world is threatening to tear apart the very fabric of the society and dehumanize the people. Drug abuse is not a problem of an individual and his/her family. It inevitably sparks off a host of complex problems which the society at large has to bear the brunt of including the scourge of HIV/AIDS. The society as a whole cannot afford to keep quiet for long at the enormous cost of human, economic and social loss due to the proliferation of drug trade and dependence culture. The culture of drug addiction persists with its ever growing demand from vulnerable sections of population.
