Abstract
A SURVEY OF FRESHWATER FISHES OF KOYNA RIVER NEAR KARAD IN SATARA DISTRICT (M.S.) INDIA

ABSTRACT

The freshwater fish fauna of Koyna River near Karad in Satara district was studied from February 2016 to January 2017. Fishes were collected in the Koyna River from Tambave to Karad with the help of local fishermen and local markets at Tambave and Karad. A total of 44 fish species belonging to 6 orders 14 families were recorded during the study. Order Cypriniformes was most dominant group represent by 28 species followed by Siluriformes, Perciformes, Synbranchiformes, Osteoglossiformes and Anguilliformes. Among the families recorded, Cyprinidae was the most dominant followed by the Bagridae and Balitoridae. Out of these species two endangered, five near threatened, thirty least concern, one vulnerable and four not evaluated two are data deficient.
